C-Section...the good the bad...info?

I am pregnant with baby #3 boy! I have two girls who were vaginal births...easy, fast, and with no complications. But also very small babies. 6"14 & 6"12!

I have gestational diabetes and am controlling it the best I can with diet and insulin shots. But the baby is all ready big! I go in for an ultra sound soon. But were all ready looking at 6.5 pounds and I am only 32 weeks. All most 33! Dr does not think I could deliver a big baby, and don鈥檛 want to take any chances.

So I know what a C-section is...but I want to know what they don't tell you, or helpful hints to feel better. Anything you think I may want to know, good or bad. When can you start driving...etc I could wait and talk to the Dr but its better to talk from mom to mom!

C-Section...the good the bad...info?

They will not let you eat after a certain time during labor due to the risk of aspirating food/liquids during surgery. If there is any chance of a c-section then they will not even let you have water or ice chips. Sometimes they will let you suck on a wet towel just to wet your mouth and lips. I don't know if you have every had an epidural with your 2 previous deliveries but they will just keep it in if you have to go for a c-sec. The thing they don't really tell you about is the horrible gas that you get afterwards from being opened up and having your digestive system slow down. The best remedy is to get up when your nurses tell you too that first day and walk, otherwise the gas will just build up and get really painful. When you first get out of bed, take it really slow and make sure that the top of your bed is raised up to allow you to slide out and the level of the bed is lowered to get you as close as possible to the floor. Get your butt as far over to the side of the bed as possible and then slide one leg over and then the other. Use the bed and side rails to help you out. Stop for while after you get both legs onto the floor and you're sitting and then slowly stand up. Make sure that a nurse or someone else is there to help you.
