Reply:Usually all the problems of speed in java desktop apps it is beacuse the programmer doesn't understand how works the Event Dispatch Thread. I suggest you learn more about Threading in Java and don't put your logic code on the Event Dispatch Thread thats the main thread a swing application is working to get the events try to put your logic in another thread. But I suggest you search on java.sun tutorials on threads and java swing to optimize better your application. It have nothing to do with another programs running on your computer or the Java VM is just how you design and develop your apps.
